Bottled Water and Programming

I was taking a climate change class recently on Open2Study website and my dear professor taught us that 1 bottled water equals to 250 liters of water in terms of resources. That is ridiculous and scary. That is actually really really scary! How many did we consume so far? I don't  know but what I know is I have not consumed any, not even 1, after that class.

As an environmental engineer, I always had an idea on resources, sustainability and such. However, we are not thaught these issues at school. They are briefly mentioned at one class or another but they are never the focus or emphasized enough to scare you so that you can take an action in real life after class. That is why I started taking these classes on global warming, climate change and sustainability.

So there is not one but two main points of this post.

1. Don't be an arse and stop buying bottled water. Yes, it is convenient at times but owning an activated filtered water bottle such as Bobble or Brita is really the responsible thing to do. It can transform your regular tap water to filtered clean water in an instant. It is also cheaper than bottled water at the end. Tap water is also better regulated than bottle water which is audited by FDA! Tap water is regulated and audited by EPA. Which one would you trust? I thought so too.

2. Take some free online classes. Open your eyes to what is going on. On issues like earth, science, other countries, history... Heck, take the rock and roll class for all I care. Just keep improving. There are amazing free MOOC websites that would give you access to hundreds of amazing classes such as Coursera or EDX. They offer classes from Harvard and MIT. It is a shame not to take them. Free education. There is no more excuses left. Currently, I am learning programming from Codecademy and it is going amazing. This is coming from a person who could not even get the "Hello, World!" jokes, let alone code it!

Anyway, life is beautiful! So is earth, so is programming! Get some filtered water bottles and enroll to a class!

Dolphin Killing in Denmark and Japan

Images of dolphins, dying slowly in their own blood, are everywhere on social media these days. Correction: not dying! Being murdered. Dolphins being murdered in Denmark and Japan. Would that be less inhumane if they were less cute? Was that a trick question?

I, for one, do not understand how a human being becomes a ‘man' by killing an animal who approaches to you to play. And you trick her by trapping her on shore with a hook. She cannot defend herself, she cannot escape and her family understands what is going on. Dolphins, as you know, are in self-aware. They care for their families, they communicate and they know that they are being murdered!

Some will say that “Oh, but you kill cows and chickens and you eat them, It is the same thing.” And I will say that you are insane. First of all, I do not kill anything or anyone. Yes, not even people like you! Second of all, I do not eat meat. I am a vegan cheating with occasional yogurt and cheese. Third of all, even if I ate meat which I did in the past, those cows were slaughtered in a slaughterhouse with proper steps. Not bluntly, inhumanely and just for fun. They served a purpose.

Honestly, I do not see any holy purpose in killing anything or anyone let alone dolphins since their meat is not healthy and they are being killed slowly in their own blood. Killing them for the sake of being a rebel towards the western culture and for money, as in Japan, is still a murder in my eyes. I would also like to add that dolphins procreate slower than other types of animals so that is why I do not compare them to lets say catfish and chicken.

Even though, I am known as an empthatic person to most, I cannot understand how this murder tradition can still be going on. I can understand that you might be lacking brains but where is your compassion, people?
